On 6 June 1944, Allied forces landed at several sections of the Normandy coast as part of Operation Overlord. British units came ashore at the beaches Gold, Juno, and Sword. Jack Lieb, who himself arrived with a seaborne element of the 82nd Airborne Division at Utah Beach, captured scenes of the landing operations. These photographs are among the rare color documents of D-Day, while comparable material of these events has been preserved almost exclusively in black and white.
