This color footage was created as part of Jack Lieb’s documentation of invasion preparations in England, shortly before D-Day on June 6, 1944. In the weeks preceding the landing, Allied troops, correspondents, and military personnel concentrated along the south English coast, where embarkation for the Normandy invasion was organized. Lieb’s 16-mm Kodachrome recordings from this phase rank among the rare color documents of an era otherwise preserved almost exclusively in black and white.
