In the summer of 1944, American film actor Edward G. Robinson traveled to Normandy as a troop visitor. Jack Lieb captured the encounter with his private 16-mm Kodachrome camera in color – a medium that is otherwise rarely documented for these events. Such celebrity visits served troop morale and were promoted by U.S. war propaganda. The footage is part of the section of the film that documents the Normandy hinterland following the landing.
