In the summer of 1944, numerous American war correspondents accompanied Allied troops through Normandy. Between combat reporting and the advance, there were occasional pauses that Lieb captured with his 16-mm Kodachrome camera. This everyday scene stands in the context of the phase following the landing, when the Allies opened up the Normandy hinterland and advanced toward Paris. Lieb’s private color footage thus documents not only the combat operations, but also the informal moments of the correspondent group.
