The still image shows the Hindenburg in the approach phase over the field at Lakehurst, New Jersey. The photograph was taken on May 6, 1937 immediately before the mooring maneuver at the mooring mast. A few minutes later, the hydrogen-filled airship caught fire while docking and burned completely in approximately half a minute. 36 of the 97 people on board perished in the disaster.
