On May 6, 1937, the passenger airship LZ 129 Hindenburg flew over New York City on its final transatlantic crossing before setting course for the naval base at Lakehurst, New Jersey. Newsreel cameras accompanied the flight and captured on-board images of the uniformed crew. A few hours later, during the mooring maneuver at Lakehurst, the airship caught fire and burned out in just under a minute.
