The photograph was taken in May 1944 in London and belongs to the opening sequence of Lieb’s film, which documents the stay of Allied war correspondents and troops in England prior to the Normandy invasion. Westminster, with the Houses of Parliament, served Lieb as an iconographic beginning to establish the British theater of war. What is remarkable about these images is that they exist in color – a rare document of London’s everyday life immediately before D-Day.
