During his visit to Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy was received by the population with extraordinary enthusiasm. The photograph shows a densely packed, waving crowd lining the President’s motorcade. Such scenes of enthusiastic reception repeated themselves at several stops along the journey through the Federal Republic of Germany. The visit was marked by the Cold War and the construction of the wall erected in 1961.
