Paris was liberated from German occupation troops on August 25, 1944. In the days immediately following, Jack Lieb captured in color the city’s rapidly returning everyday life. The bouquinistes and art dealers along the Seine quais had long been part of the Paris cityscape; that their businesses resumed so soon after the war’s end illustrates the swift return to normalcy. Lieb’s Kodachrome photographs from this period are rare color documents of the liberated city.
