During his visit to Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy delivered public addresses at several stops. Members of the American military as well as civilian companions are visible in the background. The visit took place in the context of the Cold War and served to affirm American solidarity with the Federal Republic of Germany and West Berlin. Kennedy’s appearances before microphones and crowds became a symbol of transatlantic partnership.
