During US President John F. Kennedy’s visit to Germany in June 1963, hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets and squares. The photograph shows a densely packed crowd following the visit of the American President. Kennedy’s journey through the Federal Republic and West Berlin was regarded as an important signal of Western solidarity during the Cold War, two years after the construction of the Berlin Wall.
