On August 19, 1944, the uprising of the French Resistance against the German occupation garrison began in Paris — the prelude to the liberation of the city, which lasted until August 25. Allied and Free French troops under General Leclerc assumed command of the assault, while isolated combat continued to be waged in the streets of the city. Jack Lieb documented this phase on his advance from Normandy to Paris in rare color footage, which presents events otherwise transmitted almost exclusively in black and white in a new light.
