In the summer of 1944, numerous American war correspondents accompanied Allied troops in Normandy. They reported for newspapers, radio stations, and newsreels from the front and informed the home front about the progress of the invasion. Jack Lieb filmed this scene with his private 16-mm Kodachrome camera – one of the few color footage recordings from this context, whereas comparable material from that time is otherwise almost exclusively preserved in black and white. Correspondents such as Ernie Pyle, Jack Thompson, and Larry LeSueur belonged to the circle of accredited press representatives who accompanied Lieb on his journey from England through Normandy.
