In the weeks before D-Day, numerous war correspondents from American and allied media gathered in southern England to cover the impending invasion. Jack Lieb filmed this milieu of accredited reporters, which included among others Ernie Pyle, Jack Thompson, and Larry LeSueur. The correspondents were militarily accredited, equipped with uniforms bearing no rank insignia, and prepared for embarkation. Lieb’s color footage from this phase represents rare documentation of the preparation atmosphere, which is otherwise preserved almost exclusively in black and white.
