In the weeks before the landing in Normandy, thousands of soldiers and accredited war correspondents concentrated in camps along the coast of southern England. Jack Lieb documented this preparation phase in color as one of the few observers present. Correspondents such as Ernie Pyle, Jack Thompson, and Larry LeSueur waited here for embarkation and subsequently accompanied the invasion troops. This material marks the starting point of Lieb’s film coverage, which extends from southern England via Utah Beach to Berlin.
