In May 1944, Jack Lieb was in England in connection with preparations for the invasion and filmed both military scenes and civilian everyday moments. This footage of children playing in London was shot a few weeks before the beginning of the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944. London had by this time already endured years of war; the daily life of the civilian population, particularly that of children, formed a recurring counterpoint to the military preparations in Lieb’s film material.
