During the visit to Germany by U.S. President John F. Kennedy from June 23 to 26, 1963, Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer delivered public addresses at various stops along the journey. Adenauer accompanied Kennedy as host of the Federal Republic and appeared before the public himself on these occasions. The visit took place against the backdrop of the Cold War and the Berlin Wall, which had been erected two years prior.
