Jack Lieb, as part of his coverage of Allied operations in June 1944, also captured individual soldiers in close-up. Such portrait shots were typically taken during embarkation in England, the crossing, or immediately after the landing in Normandy. As color footage on 16-mm Kodachrome film, this image is among the few color documentary records of D-Day and its immediate circumstances.
