After the fire of May 6, 1937, the exposed aluminum framework was all that remained of LZ 129 Hindenburg. The photograph shows the destroyed lattice structure of the airship in Lakehurst, New Jersey, during the phase of wreckage inspection immediately following the disaster. The wreckage documents the complete burning out of the hydrogen-filled airship, which had collapsed in on itself in less than a minute. Images of the remains were captured by several newsreel teams and were distributed worldwide in news coverage.
