After the Hindenburg (LZ 129) caught fire during the mooring maneuver in Lakehurst, New Jersey, on May 6, 1937, the airship descended to the ground in less than half a minute. The still image shows the phase immediately following impact: the aluminum framework lies still burning on the grounds of the naval air station, while the first people reach the scene of the disaster. 36 of the 97 people on board perished.
