In June 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy visited the Federal Republic of Germany. Vice Chancellor and Economics Minister Ludwig Erhard was among the central German companions during the state visit. The visit took place against the backdrop of the Cold War and the Berlin Wall’s construction two years prior, and carried great symbolic significance for German-American alliance relations.
