In late August 1944, the nearly four-year German occupation of Paris came to an end. Following the advance of Allied and French troops into the city, the population streamed onto the great boulevards. Jack Lieb captured these scenes in Kodachrome color as one of the few cameramen to do so, while the vast majority of footage from that period is in black and white. These images are part of Lieb’s film in the section covering the liberation of Paris, which follows the advance through Normandy.
