In late August 1944, Paris was liberated after four years of German occupation. After Allied and French troops of the 2nd French Armored Division under General Leclerc entered the city, Parisians streamed onto the streets in large numbers. Jack Lieb captured this moment with his private 16mm Kodachrome camera—one of the few color recordings of the Paris liberation scenes. The sequence appears in the course of his film after the fighting in Normandy and the advance via Versailles.
