After the liberation of Paris on August 25, 1944, a visit to the Eiffel Tower became one of the first impressions of the city for Allied soldiers and war correspondents. The view from the tower toward the Trocadéro and the Palais de Chaillot revealed a largely undestroyed metropolis – unlike many of the previously liberated cities in Normandy. Jack Lieb captured these moments in color, while most contemporary photographs of the liberation of Paris are in black and white.
