Paris was liberated on 25 August 1944 by Allied and French troops, after the city had been under German occupation for four years. Jack Lieb documented the liberation of the French capital as part of his private Kodachrome color film material—footage that shows the same moment otherwise almost exclusively in black and white. The scene belongs to the phase of the film in which Lieb, following the advance from Normandy via Versailles, reaches Paris and captures life in the newly liberated city.
