In June 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy visited the Federal Republic of Germany – a journey with high symbolic significance during the Cold War. The photograph shows an official address in which Kennedy stands in the midst of a larger delegation. Military and civilian representatives from both sides are present. Such greeting and reception ceremonies characterized the official portion of the journey, which took Kennedy through several stops in Germany.
