During U.S. President John F. Kennedy’s visit to Germany in June 1963, numerous citizens followed the President’s motorcade with great enthusiasm. The photograph shows onlookers who had secured an elevated vantage point with film cameras in order to document the event themselves. Such scenes of private picture-taking along the route were characteristic of Kennedy’s entire visit to Germany, which met with extraordinarily strong public response everywhere.
