During U.S. President John F. Kennedy’s visit to Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, public addresses and official receptions took place at several locations. The scene shows a person at a festively decorated podium before a large gathering. Kennedy’s visit took place in the context of the Cold War and was regarded as a sign of American solidarity with the Federal Republic of Germany and West Berlin, two years after the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961.
