During his visit to Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, John F. Kennedy addressed large crowds on several occasions. The photograph shows an outdoor speaking situation with a well-attended audience. Kennedy’s visit to the Federal Republic and West Berlin took place under the shadow of the Cold War and was regarded as a clear signal of American solidarity with western Germany, two years after the construction of the Berlin Wall.
