This footage was taken in 1944 in London and belongs to the opening section of Lieb’s film, which shows England as a staging area for the impending invasion. Tower Bridge across the Thames was at that time a central landmark of London, which though at war continued to function. In the background, the docks on the north bank are visible, which had repeatedly become targets of German air attacks during the Second World War. Lieb’s Kodachrome photograph is one of the rare color documents of London in 1944.
