This photograph is part of the embarkation and landing phase of Lieb’s film and shows U.S. soldiers in landing boats in connection with D-Day on June 6, 1944. Lieb landed in the Utah Beach area together with a sea-based element of the 82nd Airborne Division and documented the invasion in color as one of the few cameramen to do so. The film material is therefore of particular historical value, since comparable footage of this event has been preserved almost exclusively in black and white.
