Jack Lieb’s color photographs of US soldiers in June 1944 are among the rare color documents of the Normandy invasion. Lieb’s private 16-mm Kodachrome footage was created parallel to his black-and-white work for the Hearst newsreel ‘News of the Day’. Such close-up photographs of soldiers in the field are in the context of the landing phase around Utah Beach, where Lieb came ashore with an element of the 82nd Airborne Division.
