Jack Lieb recorded D-Day and its immediate aftermath as one of the few eyewitnesses in color. He landed with an element of the 82nd Airborne Division at Utah Beach and documented troops, terrain, and fortifications of the Atlantic Wall. The footage belongs to the early Normandy phase of his film and shows fully equipped US infantrymen shortly after or during the landing operations. Lieb’s color material is of particular documentary value for these events, which are otherwise preserved almost exclusively in black and white.
