The Fieseler Fi 103, popularly known as the V1 (Vergeltungswaffe 1 / Vengeance Weapon 1), was a cruise missile deployed by Germany from June 1944 onward, fired primarily against southern England and later against liberated territories on the continent. Its range and characteristic pulse-jet engine made it the first guided missile to be deployed on a large scale during the Second World War. Jack Lieb captured the aircraft with his 16-mm Kodachrome camera—at a time when such footage existed almost exclusively in black and white.
