After the breakout from Normandy, Allied forces rolled rapidly through the Île-de-France in August 1944 toward Paris. Versailles, located immediately west of the capital, was one of the final stages before the entry into Paris on August 25, 1944. Jack Lieb captured this passage of American units in color—a rare color document of the liberation phase, which is otherwise almost exclusively preserved in black and white.
