After four years of German occupation, Paris was liberated in August 1944 in the course of the Allied advance following the Normandy landing. US units entered the city together with Free French forces and the Paris resistance; on August 25, 1944, the German city commandant capitulated. Jack Lieb captured this phase of the advance in rare color footage that documents the reception of the Allied soldiers by the civilian population.
