The Arc de Triomphe at Place de l’Étoile is among the central subjects in Jack Lieb’s color documentation of the liberation of Paris in August 1944. Following the Allied advance from Normandy and the entry of Allied and Free French forces on 25 August 1944, the monument stood as a symbol of France regained at the center of the liberation celebrations. Lieb’s Kodachrome footage is among the few color records of this historic moment.
