Aachen was the first major German city captured by Allied troops in October 1944. After several days of street fighting, the remaining German defenders capitulated on October 21, 1944. Jack Lieb’s color footage documents the condition of the heavily damaged city immediately after the fighting and represents rare color evidence from this phase of the Western campaign.
