Aachen was taken by Allied troops in October 1944 as the first major German city. The severe urban fighting left large parts of the city center in ruins. War correspondents accompanied the advance and documented the situation immediately after the city’s capitulation. Jack Lieb’s color footage from Aachen is among the few color records of this phase of the campaign in the West.
