Aachen was the first German major city to be captured by Allied troops in October 1944. After weeks of fighting and fierce urban combat, large parts of the city center lay in ruins. War correspondents accompanying the advance of the U.S. Army documented the extent of the devastation. Jack Lieb’s color footage from Aachen ranks among the rare color documentation of this phase of the Western campaign.
