Jack Lieb documented not only military scenes in Normandy in the summer of 1944, but also the everyday life of the local population. Photographs of children are among the everyday scenes that Lieb filmed in the Normandy hinterland and which document the contrast between warfare and civilian life. Such motifs interrupt the sequences of the Atlantic Wall, advance, and Cherbourg in the presentation film and convey an impression of the local population immediately after the landing.
