The still image shows the Hindenburg in its approach phase to Lakehurst, New Jersey, on May 6, 1937. The airship was in the final phase of its North Atlantic crossing and was approaching the mooring mast for docking maneuvers. Minutes later, the hydrogen-filled airship caught fire and burned completely within a very short time; 36 of the 97 people on board perished.
