The still image shows the Hindenburg (LZ 129) intact during its approach to Lakehurst, New Jersey. The Zeppelin had previously flown over New York City and was approaching the naval base, where the mooring maneuver at the mooring mast was to begin. During the subsequent mooring on May 6, 1937, the hydrogen-filled airship caught fire and burned completely in approximately half a minute; 36 of the 97 people on board perished.
