The image documents the landing phase of the Hindenburg at Lakehurst, New Jersey. The airship LZ 129 was in the final section of its approach; landing lines were thrown down to the ground crew, who were to guide the ship to the mooring mast. This routine procedure was part of the standard landing procedure for transatlantic Zeppelin voyages. Moments later, on May 6, 1937, the airship caught fire and burned completely within approximately half a minute.
