On May 6, 1937, ground personnel at the naval base in Lakehurst, New Jersey, awaited the approaching LZ 129 Hindenburg. The mooring maneuver at the mooring mast was a routine procedure at the end of a transatlantic crossing. Minutes after the preparations documented here, the airship caught fire while mooring and burned out completely in approximately half a minute.
