The still image shows the Hindenburg in the approach phase over the landing field in Lakehurst, New Jersey. Ground crews have positioned themselves for the mooring maneuver; the mooring mast is visible in the background. Shortly thereafter, during mooring, the hydrogen-filled airship caught fire and burned completely in approximately half a minute. The mooring maneuver of May 6, 1937 thus marks the final phase of regular passenger airship service.
