The still image shows the approach phase of LZ 129 Hindenburg over the grounds of the naval base at Lakehurst, New Jersey. The airship was scheduled to land there following a transatlantic crossing; ground crews had already assembled on the field to take up the mooring lines. Minutes after this moment, during the docking maneuver at the mooring mast, the Hindenburg caught fire on May 6, 1937.
