After the fire on May 6, 1937, the completely burned-out aluminum framework of the LZ 129 Hindenburg remained on the grounds of the Naval Air Station Lakehurst. In the hours following the disaster, authorities and investigators began inspection of the wreckage. These photographs document the extent of the destruction and were captured by several newsreel teams. The accident, in which 36 people perished, sealed the end of commercial passenger airship travel.
