After the fire of May 6, 1937, what remained of the LZ 129 Hindenburg was the deformed aluminum structural framework, which had collapsed to the ground at the Naval Air Station Lakehurst. The inspection of the debris was part of the immediate aftermath of the disaster and served the accident investigation by American and German authorities. The wreckage documented the complete failure of the structure under fire conditions and became a symbol for the end of commercial rigid airship transportation.
