After the fire and crash of the Hindenburg, the burned-out aluminum framework of the LZ 129 remained on the grounds of Naval Air Station Lakehurst. Rescue and recovery vehicles as well as ground personnel advanced to the accident site immediately after the disaster. The aerial photograph documents the final phase of the catastrophe, in which the wreckage was secured and the injured were attended to. The disaster of May 6, 1937 claimed the lives of 36 people and ended the era of commercial passenger airship transportation.
